| These tables were developed
by the American Iron and Steel with guidance from AISI Residential Advisory
Group. They are intended to provide designers and contractors with guidance
on design of low-rise residential buildings that utilize steel structural
members. AISI believes that the information contained in these tables substantially
represents industry practice and related scientific and technical information,
but the information is not intended to represent an official position of
AISI or to restrict or exclude any other contraction or design techniques.
Additional design and detailing is required to incorporate these components
into construction. The American
Intitute of Steel Construction Specification for Structural Steel Buildings,
dated June 1989 and Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design,
dated 1989 were used as the standards for the development of these tables.
They are referenced throughout this publication and should be considered
an integral part of structural steel design.
